Telecommunications reforms in Britain have cut broadband prices and increased competition, say the British regulator.
The European broadband market is growing rapidly. At the end of Q2 2007, there were close to 100 million broadband subscribers in Europe. DSL remains the dominant access technology, with over 80 percent of the market share. Nordic countries remain the leaders in broadband penetration, with penetration rates exceeding or approaching 30 percent.
UK fixed-line broadband television service will not launch before Christmas.
The mobile phone company O2 is seeking to extend the deals it has with media companies including Warner Bros, HBO and Paramount for its TV service in the Czech Republic to the UK, as it plans to go head to head with BT, Sky and Virgin Media next year in the British pay-TV market.
The recently launched O2 broadband service has come top in a poll by an independent broadband advice website. In the survey conducted by Thinkbroadband , O2, which launched its service in November this year, was rated above AOL (UK), Orange, Talktalk, BT and Sky for speed, reliability and customer service.
